Sep 23, 2019 · At the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown is KIM + ONO , a modern boutique that seeks to preserve the local and cultural art of kimono design. I stopped in one day to meet one of the founders herself, Renee Tam, who shared with me how it was started. She grew up in the area with her sister, and ini KIM+ONO Founders Tiffany and Renee Tam on Kimonos, Family & Heritage. When sisters Tiffany and Renee Tam were growing up in San Francisco, Chinatown was a second home to them. That’s because from a young age, they’d spend time at their parents’ store, eventually working there and getting an inside look at the family business. KIM + ONO is a handcrafted kimono company specializing in silk and charmeuse botanical print kimonos. Each kimono features an original pattern, first sketched by hand, then saturated in rich watercolors using a traditional paintbrush.
