As long as you are just taking a lot of damage and may require a certain degree of "babysitting" by the healers at key moments it's fine.The only thing that could be hindering your spread is if you're not hitting your secondary targets. Reasons could be: 1) they're out of range. You said you checked, but I'd suggest you check again. Both the primary target and the ones you want to spread your DoTs to need to be within 5m of you. 2) they're out of LoS.
