The medium bbl prevents many standard m1A or m14 accessories. I believe the scout squad has a forward rail already for other options if you desire. I have had both loaded M1A and a scout squad, both have pros and cons. What you are role you are wishing the rifle to play will dictate what meets your needs and desires.
