The point of the Wolnir change is so that on a FAI primary build with bit of STR investment it will outperform other Greatswords by a considerable amount without relying on a buff, freeing up a slot/MP. For Dark Souls III on the PlayStation 4, a GameFAQs message board topic titled "wolnir's Holy Sword".

Its a greatsword with a pretty useless WA (for pvp at least) that scales off strength and faith. I real quick looked at the AR of a lightning infused claymore and the wolnirs holy sword with 40 in strength, 13 in dex, and 40 in faith, and the claymore is more powerful. Claymore had 578 while wolnirs had 496.

I don't see any way FROM can fix what they've done to greatswords. It's not just one problem, the way the entire game is designed has simply made…How good is Wolnir's Holy Sword? I'm doing a strength/faith build and this weapon seems neat. What irks me is its WA. Wolnir's Holy Sword starts out with basic D-D scaling, but turns to D-C at +2. You'd think a greatsword would have better strength scaling, but not in this case.
