Just did this yesterday on my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L because my reverse lights weren't working. The 3 wire plug comes off easily if you find the tab, depress it with a screwdriver and gently lever the plug off. You need a 1" deep socket set to remove the neutral safety switch.

Stalled, No Start, Code P0340. The Jeep stalled while driving and wouldn't start back up so I had it towed home. I check fuses, all good. Tested all the relays in the fuse/relay box and all tested good. Tested the external relay from the TIPM recall and is good. I pulled the fuel line off the rail and there was definitely fuel pressure.Jan 7, 2011 · The fuel pump will need a power feed going to it. The OEM one isn't going to work anymore due to the motor etc being out of it. You will need to provide the fuel pump relay with another source of switched power, as the Jeep ECM is not providing one now. A wire from a hot wire will work fine to switch the relay over. Last week my 2002 WJ 4.0 4x4, 140,000 miles, started having low oil pressure at idle. I was at a stop light and the "check gauges" light came on. I pulled over and checked my oil level and it was good. Since your XJ is a 2001, it won't have plug wires or a distributor but instead has a coil pack ignition. As far as the E3 plugs or other fancy ones, thats your own decision.
