Heavy trq in the lower gears and RPM ranges is what really chews up gears. 800whp/trq will severaly limit the life of the transmission, but all depends on how you drive the car, and how hard and continually you abuse it. Having said that though some people seem to be very 'hard' on transmissions and can spit a T5 all over the ground behind a stock 302. If you think you're in that catagory then don't use the T5.

But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly.
