I think it is about 90 miles long. You can go all week and never loose sight of land but sail for 3-4 hours a day and spend the morning or afternoon at a different mooring on a different island. With the USVI there are 3 main islands. We go to St John at least twice per year and stay in the Bordeaux Mtn or Coral Bay areas. Lots of breeze there to keep bugs off, but still a lot of mosquitoes and no-see ums. We took a spray this year called Sawyers Insect Repellant with 20% picaridin and had fewer bites. I think the DEET only works well for mosquitoes.This will be our first trip to St. John and the USVI.We are staying at Gallow Point. Aside from driving around the island is there any practical need for a jeep while we are there? VILLA: We stayed in Peter Bay. When filtering villa rentals, it seems on St. John, needing 5 bedrooms puts you in Peter Bay, or at least by the time I started looking, it did. My go -to villa rental agency is www.wheretostay.com. They are wonderful and while I've used others over the years, they remain my favorite.
