Steve, I don't know where that info came from but southwire has a good VD calculator. If you have 12 amps at 150 feet then #12 has a 2.6% VD which is fine. You don't use 15 amps if the unit only draws 12 amps. I used 12 amps but the unit only uses 9.4 amps

A difference of 2/3 of a meter. (Unless you want to shorten your safety margin.) BTW, accurate measurement and ordering of wire means extra profit. 2/3rds of a meter of wire is not loss profit, its peanuts even in large wire. The two calculations you must do. First, you must determine the absolute minimum wire size, even if the cable were only 1 foot long. You either. start with your actual load and multiply by 125%, so for instance if you have a 39A hot tub, you must multiply by 125% to get 48.75A, which rounds up to 50A. Or.If you split that equally amongst the 2, you would need #8 to be below 2.5% VD for the branch circuit; #10 gets you to 2.63% per the Southwire calculator: 1 conductors per phase utilizing a #10 Copper conductor will limit the voltage drop to 2.63% or less when supplying 30.0 amps for 100 feet on a 240 volt system.Mohammad Sadrzadeh | National Southwire Solutions Professional Another option from the Code Book which is very common is additional cables.
